ATTRIBUTES
Australian Brush Box (Tristania Conferta) is a hardwood that grows from the central coast of New South Wales to the Bowen area of coastal Queensland. It has beautiful, distinctive colors and fine, even grain. Brush Box grain can be interlocking in some sections of the wood and is free of gum veins. It is resistant to wear and does not splinter when being worked. Although it has a slight, natural waxiness, it is a good base for varnishes and stains. Brush Box heart wood has good resistance to termite attacks. Australian Brush Box is used for flooring, cladding, panelling, mallets, pulley blocks, and even as bridge decking in dry areas of the country. Brush Box trees can grow up to 130 feet (40 meters) in moist Australian forests and the edges of rainforests. Its leaves are dark green and leathery, and it is a good shade tree. |
